Alicia Elidia Tijerina

Alicia was born on December 27, 1933, at Nogales Ranch, Texas, to Jose Angel Guerra and Julia Guerra. From her earliest years, she embodied the values of faith, hard work, compassion, and dedication to family that would define her life.

Above all, Alicia cherished her family. She found her greatest joy in raising her children and creating a loving home filled with warmth, laughter, and enduring traditions. Alicia loved sewing, knitting, and making beautiful quilts. She enjoyed working on jigsaw puzzles and Sudoku puzzles, appreciating the quiet challenge and satisfaction they brought. Most of all, Alicia found fulfillment in helping others, always offering a caring hand, a listening ear, or words of encouragement whenever they were needed. Her legacy is one of love, resilience, generosity, and selflessness.

Alicia was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 66 years, Salvador Tijerina; her parents, Jose Angel Guerra and Julia Guerra; and her beloved siblings, Maria Estefana Rocha. Jesus Alejo Guerra (Eloisa), Jose Arnoldo Guerra (Martina), Jose Angel Guerra, Jr. (Sylvia).

She is survived by her three children: Diana Tijerina and her son, Caleb Padro; Jaime Tijerina (Amy Volk) and their daughters, Isabella and Ophelia; and Salvador Tijerina, Jr. (Eva) and their children, Mark, Felix, Angel, Crystal, and Rene. Alicia was also blessed with one great-grandchild, Alex.

She is also survived by her loving sisters, Socorro Lucio (Robert), Leticia Barrera, as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives were touched by her kindness and generosity.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 13, with a Mass at 9:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 2209 Kendlewood Ave, McAllen, TX 78501. A burial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the Rio Grande Valley State Veteran’s Cemetery, 2520 S. Inspiration Road, Mission, TX 78572.

Family and friends are invited to gather for a reception immediately afterward at Koko’s Cafe Uptown, 6100 N. 10th Street A, McAllen, TX 78504, to honor Alicia’s life, share memories, and celebrate the love she leaves behind.

May Alicia Tijerina rest in eternal peace, reunited with her beloved Salvador, and may her memory forever be a blessing to all who knew and loved her.
