Doroteo shared 74 beautiful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Virginia Saldaña, who preceded him in death. Their life together was a testament to love, devotion, and commitment. The memories they created and the love they shared will remain a lasting part of the lives of all who knew them.
Doroteo dedicated much of his career to the McAllen Public Library. Through his years of work, he quietly contributed to a place that served generations of families throughout the community. He took pride in his work and in being someone others could depend upon.
Doroteo was a devout Roman Catholic who shared God’s love with others through word and deed. He was an inspiration to those who knew him and was loved and admired by many. His characteristic smile, open embrace, and kind word made him the special person he was. The impact of Doroteo’s life, ministry, and love has been felt by many throughout the Valley. He played an instrumental role in the early Cursillo movement for men in the Valley in the 1960s. He, and his wife, Virginia were active on Cursillo teams. For many years, and until recently, both played significant roles in their faith community.
Although, they had no children of their own they did take two sons under their wings: Juan Ramon Perez (Berta) and Jerry Farias (Jenilee). Juan and Jerry were raised by Doroteo and Virginia and have been by their side throughout their lives. They also “adopted” the Farias brothers and their spouses (Jorge, Mando (Becky), Abelino (Nora); Rick (Yoli); Rene (Norma); Eddie, Bert (Monique) and Steven (Maribel). And their clan was even larger. They were constantly surrounded and supported by family: the Alvarez’s (Crecencio, Jr. [Maria Petra], Ruben and Maria Elena Farias as well as the Munoz’s (Dolores† [Dan], Amparo [Frank], Frank [Mary] and David).
Doroteo will be remembered for his warm heart, gentle spirit, welcoming smile, and the love he gave so freely to his family, friends, and community. His presence brought comfort and joy to those around him, and his legacy of faith, love, hard work, and devotion will live on through the many lives he touched.
As he answers the Lord’s call, may Doroteo be reunited with his beloved Virginia and welcomed into the eternal peace he so faithfully believed in.
