

Elvia G. Munguia, born in McAllen, Texas, to Federico Garcia and Virginia Alvarez, passed away surrounded by the love of her family. She leaves behind her devoted husband of nearly 58 years, Eugenio Munguia, with whom she built a beautiful life filled with love, faith, and family.
Elvia was a loving mother to Elda Perez (Eric), Eugenio Munguia Jr. (Jennifer), and Eduardo Munguia. She was also a proud and cherished grandmother to Tamika, Michael, Erica, Mary Jo, Calvin, and Kenneth, all of whom brought her tremendous joy. She also leaves behind her siblings; Federico, Miguel, Juan David, Annabell, Ruben, Antonio, Eduardo, and Alejandro. Preceded by siblings; Francisco and Jose Alvarez.
Elvia dedicated over 40 years of her life to nursing and caring for others. She was a passionate child advocate and made history as the first SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) nurse in Hidalgo County. Her compassion, strength, and commitment to helping those in need touched countless lives throughout her career.
A woman of deep faith, Elvia was an active and devoted member of her church community. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, crocheting, knitting, and spending time with her loved ones. She had a remarkable gift for gardening — as her family lovingly said, she could “pick a leaf and grow a tree.” She also enjoyed gambling and creating cherished memories with family and friends wherever she went.
Elvia will be remembered for her caring heart, unwavering dedication to others, and the love she gave so freely to everyone around her. Her legacy of compassion, faith, and family will live on in all who knew and loved her.
