Erika was born on July 19, 1977, in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico. She spent her childhood in New York and New Jersey before making her way to San Antonio, Texas, where she spent most of her teenage years and created lifelong friendships. At Southside High School she played basketball and ran cross country. She graduated near the top of her class in 1996.
On October 18, 2002, Erika married her husband, Raymond “Bubba,” in San Antonio, Texas, in front of a myriad of family and friends. Just over a year later, they welcomed their daughter Yvette Marie. Then, in 2010, their son, Yvan Andrew, was born. Erika doted on her family and was happiest when surrounded by them. She was well known for giving many of them silly nicknames.
In 2001, Erika received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of Texas at San Antonio, and in 2007, she graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Texas Pan American. She became a licensed Physician Assistant in 2009, and practiced healthcare in various fields including family practice, urgent care, pain management and ophthalmology.
Erika had a zest for life and loved to have a good time. She was often the life of the party and her voice could be heard across a crowded room. Erika loved music, attending concerts and the San Antonio Spurs. She was well known for her amazingly beautiful eyelashes, gorgeous, thick brunette hair, and her boisterous laugh.
Erika leaves behind her husband, Raymond; daughter, Yvette; son, Yvan; mother, Mercedes; sister, Maylynn; and countless other family and friends.
We are all eternally grateful to have known and loved Erika for her short time here on earth. We will miss her tremendously, but we will always cherish the memories of time spent with her.
