Gene Riley

Gene Riley passed away at McAllen Medical Center surrounded by his family on Friday, April 14, 2017 in McAllen, Texas at the age of 69. Gene is survived by his loving wife Robbie, his children Jennifer (Jerry), Cody (Christina), Michelle (Chris), Matt (Samantha), James, Will (Jackie). He is also survived by his sister, Cheryl Ann and his brother, Gary (Marie). He is loved, adored, and cherished by his grandchildren Tyler, Chelsea, Valerie, Gage, Payton, Tristen, Haley, Lucy, Madison, Tristan, Brayden, Brody, Cameron, Junior, Rhyder, Bodee as well as his great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Janet Riley, and his son Chase (Nikki).

Gene had many accomplishments during his high school years which included quarterback at Mercedes High School and a state pole vaulting champion. After high school, he received a full track scholarship and graduated from Abilene Christian College with a B.A.in Accounting and Marketing, as well as a Minor in Theology. He pole vaulted during his college years and this passion continued as a calling where he continued to volunteer his time coaching students in pole vaulting to help them reach their maximum potential.

His passion was attending and coaching at track meets; surrounding himself with his loved ones which included weekly movie dates with his beloved wife of 29 years, visiting his grandchildren, or having dinner or lunch with his friends.

Although we feel a great loss, another angel has found his wings and has set off on flight safe into the arms of God and to those gone before him waiting and anticipating his arrival as he makes his way into Heaven or in dads words “I’ve gone to see a man about a dog”…..No tiene gottie ay!

Visitation will be held at Del Angel Funeral Home in Mission, Tuesday, April 18, 2017 from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at 1:00 pm with interment to follow at Valley Memorial Gardens. Services are under the direction of Del Angel Funeral Home of Mission.
