Gilbert was the son of Willie Gonzalez Sr. (deceased) and Carolina Gonzalez of Alamo, Texas. He is survived by his devoted wife, Gloria Gonzalez, his children and their families: Bianca Gonzalez-Heyes, her husband Benjamin Heyes and their children Mia and Olive; Matthew Gonzalez, his wife Paola Gonzalez and son Matteo; Alexandra Gonzalez and her son Landon; Amber Gonzalez.
A quick-witted, adventurer, with a knack for “cuentos,” Gilbert was a charismatic man with a magnetic personality. Upon his return from Houston, he opened the first Willie B’s BBQ, achieving a level of success befitting his mastery and passion for the culinary arts.
A closed-casket viewing will be at 4 p.m. Friday, December 9 at Del Angel Funeral Home in Mission. Memorial services will follow at 6 p.m. Services are under the direction of Del Angel Funeral Home of Mission.
