

John was born on April 5, 1926 in Thomasville, NC. He was a WWII Navy Veteran, and a former North Carolina Highway Patrolman. Of his 33 years of Federal Government Service, 5 years were spent as an Immigration and Naturalization Border Patrol Inspector, and 25 years with the US Department of Treasury and Customs Service. His duty assignments included various Mexican Ports of Entry: Nassau, Bahamas, Wilmington, NC and Durham, NC. Fourteen of those years were spent as Port Director in Charge of the Ports of Durham, NC, Hidalgo, Progresso, Roma and Falcon Heights, TX, from which he retired in March 1986.
He is survived by his wife Helena; his daughter Johnnie Maria Jackson Ziats(Jim) of Mooresville, NC; two granddaughters; 5 great grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at Del Angel Funeral Home in Mission from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm with a rosary service at 7:00 pm. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 29, 2016 at Del Angel Funeral Home at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Mission. Services are under the direction of Funeraria Del Angel of Mission.
