The Lord honored Judy with a “Holy Death” making her“Transition into the Spirit”while sleeping in her Houston home. She is preceded in death by her parents Mike and Victoria Karam - Also, preceded in death are her siblings, Mickey, Nancy and George Karam.
-The Mike Karam Family were of the Lebanese families that immigrated thru Mexico to Texas Border Cities in the late 1930’s-1940’s. Judy’s parents joined their relatives with their business; living in the area of the first Downtown of McAllen by Sacred Heart Church. Judy‘s strong-hearted parents raised their Children to reflect personal qualities of their culture, ethics, joy, wisdom, resilience, human understanding, as well as, the importance of loving God and the value of hard work for prosperity. Judy was proud being a 1st Generation Lebanese-American. Her culture gave her strength and discernment.
She is survived by her three nephews: Joe Wright Karam, Michael Anthony Karam and Jeffrey Daniel Karam. She adored her three great-nieces: (of Jeffrey) Alexa Danielle, Eliana Marie, and Gabriella Diane Karam. Judy was considered their Sito (grandmother in Arabic) she pampered them and taught them about kindness and that “Love is Action”. Judy’s nephews describe her as a constant giver who always put others needs before her own. She was devoted to care for each of her family members. She made huge sacrifices in her young life assisting, caregiving and helping her parent(s) with her handicapped (cerebal palsy) siblings, Mickey and Nancy. A vocation- of- love and humility that is unprecedented in this era and generation.
Judy attended McAllen schools and was a McHi 1961 Graduate. She excelled academically; with many achievements. She was a Top Twirler and led the McHi Band as Assistant Drum Majorette.
Judy also played saxophone for the Bulldog Band –and was awarded several medals in District Competitions: Her leadership “Shined”-Serving in: Band Council (Officer), National Thespians Actors, Student Council, Band Boosters, and Bulldog Backers.
Judy attended then-Pan American University in Edinburg. She received a B.S. in Education.
She taught English, Drama and Theater at McAllen High School.
When the family moved to Houston to join her beloved brother George Karam (Attorney, Assist District Attorney of Harris County ), Judy taught for Houston ISD. She completed her Masters in Administration –and became a Vice Principal for Houston ISD High Schools. Before her full retirement as an Educator, Judy was an adjunct professor at “DeVry “Private University, in Houston.
After all her family was deceased, Judy became a caregiver to neglected dogs and cats. Judy’s love and compassion for animals was as “saintly” as the works of St. Francis of Assisi. She spared no expense to caring for her pets. She extended DIGNITY to her deceased pets with official burials in the backyard of her family home.
Judy’s unexpected departure left an “empty space” in the hearts of those who loved her dearly.
Thoughts from a close ‘1961 McHi Friend: “Judy was a great role model for many; she encouraged her friends and family to remain positive even if the circumstances didn't warrant.”
‘But what is written, “What no eye has seen, nor ear has heard, nor the human heart conceived,
What God has prepared for those who Love Him.” 1st Corinthians 2:9: Judy is resting in Peace.
