On Saturday, February 27, 2021, Luciano "Chano" Guerra, loving husband and father, passed away at the age of 97. Luciano was born May 6, 1923 at La Reforma in San Isidro, Texas to his father, Eliseo Guerra and his mother, Crisanta Barrera Guerra; he was the third of 10 children. He was an entrepreneur, a family man and a lover of nature.
In his youth, Luciano lived in Tamazunchale, SLP, Mexico, during which time he developed a passion for tropical plants and palms. He turned this passion into a successful business that gained him recognition throughout the United States, Mexico and Europe as a pioneer and an innovator in the horticultural and palm seed industry.
On March 6, 1944 Luciano married the love of his life, Maria de Jesus "Chuy" Vargas Guerra. They raised five children in Mission, Texas.
Luciano is survived by his wife of 77 years Maria de Jesus, his brother Noe Guerra, his sisters Oralia Guerra Santos and Viola Guerra Sunderland, his children and their spouses Juan and Esther Trevino Guerra, Bertha Guerra Puig, Hilda and Jack Edwards, Crisanta and Robert Lozano and Luciano and Vicki Knoblock Guerra, his 12 grandchildren, and his 13 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Sunday, March 7, 2021 at Funeraria Del Angel in Mission, from 3 pm to 8 pm, with a prayer service at 6 pm. Funeral service will be held Monday, March 8, 2021 at 10 am at Funeraria Del Angel. Burial will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
