Maria Olivia Gorena

Mission: Maria Olivia Gorena, age 90, went to be with our Lord on March 10, 2012. She is preceded in death by her sister, Ella Margarita Gorena; Parents, Alfredo Zeferino Gorena and Olivia Martinez Gorena; Brother, Jose Alfredo Gorena. Ms. Gorena is survived by her sister, Ludivina G. Valverde; Nephew, Victor V. Valverde; Nieces, Velma Valverde and Valerie Valverde. Ms. Gorena devoted 34 years of her life to teaching and caring for children with profound special needs. She was a Special Education teacher at the PSJA School District and was an avid supporter of the Special Olympics. Her deep love of music made her an accomplished pianist and organist, and a beloved piano teacher, and she also served as Chorale Director for Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. By far her zest for life and deep affection for her family will be most remembered. She left a lasting impression on countless lives and led an exemplary life herself that her many will strive to honor. Memorial contributions can be made to any St. Jude’s organization and/or to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Visitation will begin Tuesday, March 13, 2012 from 5-9PM with a rosary at 7PM. Funeral Mass will be Wednesday, March 14, 2012 10 am atOur Lady of Guadalupe Church in McAllen. Interment to follow in Valley Memorial Gardens.
