Maria Dolores Herrera

Lola was born on March 25, 1942, in Morelia, Michoacán, Mexico, to David Guzman and Amparo Mendoza Guzman. As the eldest of nine children, she embraced responsibility from an early age, a quality that remained with her throughout her life.

In 1969, she married the love of her life, Antonio Herrera, and together they built a beautiful family, raising three children with unwavering love, faith, and devotion. Family was the center of Lola's life, and she poured her heart into caring for those she loved.

A woman of deep and abiding faith, Lola faithfully prayed over her family each night, always thanking the Lord for His countless blessings and kindness. Her relationship with God guided her life and was reflected in the compassion, strength, and grace she showed to everyone around her.

Lola found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved crafts and creative hobbies, including word searches, sewing, and crocheting. Her greatest happiness, however, was found outdoors tending to her beloved plants and garden, where she found peace and beauty in God's creation. She was a gifted storyteller who could bring every memory to life. Although she treasured her quiet moments, she never missed an opportunity to share a joke or one of her unforgettable one-liners that could brighten anyone's day. Each morning began the same way—with a cheerful tune on her lips and her favorite cup of coffee, made just the way she liked it: mostly hazelnut creamer with just a bit of coffee.

Lola's love was expressed through acts of service. She lovingly cared for her parents, cherished time watching television and reading books with her grandchildren, and created meaningful family traditions. She lived with a strong sense of responsibility, discipline, respect, and independence, qualities that earned the admiration of all who knew her.

For more than 20 years, Lola dedicated herself to serving McAllen School District. She was known for her remarkable work ethic, reliability, and commitment. She took great pride in caring for her home and family, creating a place filled with warmth, love, and lasting memories.

Lola will be remembered as a woman of unwavering faith, quiet strength, generous love, and joyful spirit. Her wisdom, laughter, prayers, and steadfast devotion to her family have left an enduring legacy that will continue to inspire generations to come.

Though her presence will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort in knowing she is at peace in the loving presence of the Lord she faithfully served. Her life was a beautiful example of love, faith, hard work, and selfless devotion. Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by two children, Melissa Herrera, Adan (Iris) Herrera; daughter in-law, Laura Herrera; five grandchildren, Aviana Betik, Maya Betik, Gabrielle Herrera, Adan Jr. Herrera, Clara Herrera; eight siblings, Maria Jesus, Maria Elena, Graciela, Antonio, Raquel, Mercedes, Juan, David; many more family and friends.

Dolores is reunited in heaven with her husband, Antonio Herrera; parents, David Guzman and Amparo Mendoza Guzman; son, Hector Antonio Herrera.

A viewing will be held at Funeraria Del Angel in Mission on Monday, August 10, 2026 from 5pm to 9pm with a rosary at 7pm. Funeral Mass will be at St. Joseph The Worker on Tuesday, August 11, 2026 at 12pm with burial to follow at Valley Memorial Gardens.
