Marta Chavez was a loyal daughter, crazy sister, and a dedicated teacher who touched the lives of many youth in the area; she worked long and hard hours in her fierce support of her own, her students’ and others’ growth. A strong believer in the idea of life-long learning, she pushed herself as well as others to continue growing and improving themselves. She often fought for those students who most needed help and attention and pushed hard to bring to the classroom the key materials and teaching methods that she knew would get the job done. Those who knew her recognized that Marta had no fear of challenging instances of injustice.
An avid gardener, she had much success in growing roses, poinsettias, and was particularly proud of her lemon trees and mango trees. Family members, friends and neighbors recognized her sense of care and often stopped by to get advice on plant care, to exchange recipes for their latest dish or just to seek advice about support for a child who was performing poorly in school.
Marta will be missed by numerous family and friends.
