Mauro Lopez, born April 16, 1942, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2026. He was a man of deep faith, a devoted family man, and a lifelong lover of music whose presence will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Mauro worked faithfully for over 30 years at Charles Clark Chevrolet, where he eventually retired after decades of hard work and commitment. A gifted musician, Mauro had a special love for music, especially hymns. He was the drummer for Los Dos Gilbertos, a band he formed with his brothers. Music followed him everywhere—he could often be found singing a tune or drumming with his hands. His love for song extended into his later years, when he sang to fellow residents and caretakers at his nursing home. They shared that his music brought them joy and comfort. Mauro was an active member of the church and served in the choir at Our Lady of Queen of Angels Catholic Church in La Joya and Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg. His faith was not only spoken but lived daily through kindness, service, and prayer. Every Thanksgiving, he could be found leading the family prayer. He had a great love for animals and throughout his life cared for many, including dogs, birds, lambs, and even a horse. He also had a fondness for chocolate snacks and especially enjoyed French cheesecake. Mauro was a proud father who taught his only son the values of responsibility, honesty, faith, and love through his own example. He showed him what it truly meant to be a loving husband, father, and family man. As a grandfather, Mauro delighted in taking his grandchildren out to eat, to the park, and spending every holiday surrounded by family, creating memories.
He is survived with deep sorrow by his son, Luis Enrique (Diana) Lopez; two grandchildren, Ashley Nicole Lopez, Bradley Lopez; two siblings, Ruben Lopez, Olga Lopez Herrera; many more family and friends.
Mauro is welcomed in heaven by his beloved wife, Maria Elma Lopez; his parents, Benito and Gregoria Lopez; and his sisters and brothers.
A viewing will be held at Funeraria Del Angel in Mission on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, from 5pm to 10pm with a rosary at 7pm. A catholic service will be on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at 10am followed by burial at Valley Memorial Gardens.
