Oscar Gonzalez peacefully passed away surrounded by family and protected by his faith. Born in McAllen from humble beginnings, Oscar strove his entire life to be his best. From a young age, he committed himself to work and service. He picked in the fields as a child and worked alongside his father and brothers in construction as a young man. In high school, he excelled in sports and proudly showed livestock. His proudest professional moment was enlisting in the United States Marine Corps. He would often regale his many adventures “overseas” to friends and family. In his heart and soul he was a Marine, above all else. Upon returning home, he continued his service as a federal employee for the United States Postal Service in McAllen. Working night shifts were difficult, so when retirement came, he welcomed it. It was a blessing as it afforded him the the time to help care for what was probably his proudest personal achievement in his life, his grandson. With his work done here on earth, he’d tell you he’s off to guard the streets of Heaven. Semper Fi, Marine.
Oscar is survived by his children; Gigi Pilar, Andrea Sarai, Gauge Oscar, David Alejandro; his grandson; Caliber Gauge Gonzalez, siblings; Alicia (Alfredo) Presas, Susana (Christopher) Fann, Chayo (Jose) Soto, Carmen, Mario, Ricardo (Robin) and Fernando. He is preceded by his parents; Maria Del Rosario and Modesto Gonzalez, and his brothers; Modesto Jr. and Rafael Gonzalez.
Services will be held on Tuesday April 8, 2025 from 5-9pm with a rosary to take place at 7pm. A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help at 11:30am on Wednesday, April 9, 2025 with burial to follow at RGV National Veterans Cemetery at 1Pm.
