Rene Vega

Born on October 29, 1951, in Mission, Texas to his parents, Arturo and Francisca Vega, Rene built a life defined by his wisdom, strength and an unwavering love for his family.

At a young age, Rene worked as a manager at various retail stores before becoming a Certified Public Accountant, an accomplishment he was very proud of. Rene worked at a firm in the Houston area specializing in restaurants and was valued highly by his clients. Rene was known for his strong work ethic and was well respected.

Throughout his life, Rene devoted himself to always being there for his loved ones. He had a huge heart and was known to give heartfelt speeches at family events. He was also quick to smile and joke and had a laugh that made others smile. Rene was always there to lend an ear and give advice. He traveled all over the country to be there for his loved ones.

Rene was a dedicated father. He spent time coaching his sons each year in little league and going hunting with them. He went to his daughter’s dance recitals and was always there for his children’s various academic events. Anyone that met Rene heard about how proud he was of his children.

Rene was a loving husband and had just celebrated his 54th wedding anniversary with his wife, Hortencia. The two built a solid foundation of love and respect for their family.

Rene’s last great passion were his grandchildren. He lit up each time he saw them and enjoyed going to pick them up from school. They were his pride and joy and he always told them they were the best in the world.

Rene is survived by his loving wife, Hortencia; his children: Belinda Vega, Charles (Yijia) Vega and Richard (Ana) Vega; his cherished grandchildren: Emilia Vega and Andrew Vega; his siblings: Aurora (late Efrain) Vera, Gertrudis (Jesus) Trejo, Oscar (Candelaria) Vega, Consuelo (Francisco) Mendez, Elva (Jose) Salinas, Eva (Israel) Sagredo and Arturo (Janie) Vega Jr. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, other extended family members and friends.

Rene will be remembered for his unwavering devotion to his family, his commitment to his faith and work and the genuine kindness he showed to everyone who knew him. His memory will live on in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have shared in his life, and his legacy of love, faith, and family will continue through generations.

A viewing will be held Thursday, August 20, 2026 from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Funeraria Del Angel located at 3611 N. Taylor Rd, Mission, Texas. A mass will be held Friday, August 21, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church located at 620 N. Dunlap Avenue, Mission, Texas with interment to follow at 11:00 a.m. at Valley Memorial Gardens located at 3611 N. Taylor Rd, Mission, Texas.
