He was born on December 24, 1939, in Springfield, the son of Edward and Bernice Charles. He married Linda S. Piper on May 20, 1972, in Springfield. Linda preceded him in death in 2023.
Prior to his retirement, Bob worked for the Illinois State Police in the Data Processing Unit. Before moving to Texas, he was a member of South Side Christian Church in Springfield, Illinois. Bob enjoyed traveling and the RV lifestyle after his retirement and was an active member of Bentsen Grove Resort. He loved playing cards with his friends at the resort and spending time with his family.
Bob is survived by 4 children: Rebecca (Brian) Koen of New Berlin, Kelley Travis of Charleston, Ronda Brown of Cantrall, and Leigh Anne (Rocky) Yocum of Athens; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren with 2 more arriving soon; and his brother Eddie Charles of Creal Springs.
Private family graveside services will be held at a later date in Springfield, Illinois.
