

Robert J. “Bob -Bobby” Gonzalez transitioned peacefully into Heaven on Saturday, March 1, 2025, while at MD Anderson in Houston, Texas surrounded by loved ones. He was born and raised in McAllen, Texas and is preceded in death by his parents Carlos V. Gonzalez and Concha O. Gonzalez and by his brother Eduardo “Eddie” Gonzalez.
Bob was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife Laura M. Gonzalez, his daughter Chelsea V. Gonzalez, his siblings Carlos “Carlitos” V. Gonzalez Jr., Dalinda (Arnaldo “Nano”) Ramirez, Diana A. Gonzalez, his grandchildren Araya R. Solis and Atreyu Z. Solis, and by numerous nieces and nephews

Bob was a Mc Allen High School graduate (72) and attended the University of Texas at Austin, where he studied both law and business. He excelled in academics as reflected in his recognition within the National Honor Society, amongst others. He then relocated to McAllen, Texas where he started his career in conjunction with continuing his passion for music. He worked in management at the iconic La Villa Real Convention Center, as well as an account executive at both KURV Talk Radio and KIWW. He played in various bands growing up, notably Rumour and Rush Hour, across several decades forming a great following. His career expanded to other industries, including Valley Block and Brick in Pharr, Texas as a sales representative for over a decade, and then he transitioned to International Paper in Edinburg for many years. His career took him on a path across various industries which resulted in lasting friendships over the years. He then last worked with Willamette as a South Texas regional sales representative before entering retirement to enjoy his family, including his then, soon to be grandkids.
Bob loved sports and was a true outdoorsman, whether it was competing in the numerous fishing tournaments hosted on South Padre Island, fishing at any of the numerous Texas lakes, or hunting. In addition, he was the President of the Rio Grande Valley Dart Association (1985-2002). Bob had a great sense of humor and a personable welcoming smile. People that knew him were blessed to know him, as he was humble and had a welcoming heart. He stood firm in his political views, love of sports, and possessed an intellect that rivals any other. His barbecue was a serious past time and his musical medley in life were his family and friends. The friendships he formed stood the test of time.
During Bob’s life journey his main passion was for his love of family. He met his wife, Laura, 48 years ago and they were married for 44 years. They were partners in life, love, sports, and spoiling their grandkids, whom he adored beyond belief. He was blessed to have been surrounded by family during his transition to Heaven, and we are all blessed to have known him.
