

McAllen - Silverio Lamas, 87, passed away on Tuesday, August 9, 2016. He was born in Havana, TX and moved to McAllen in 1942. A loyal patriot, Silverio served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. After his service he worked in the produce industry and later became self-employed.
Passionate and self-reliant, Silverio faced life's challenges and turned them into successes.
He is preceded in death by his parents: Marcelo and Maria N. Lamas; his brothers: Santiago Lamas and Francisco Lamas; his sisters: Amalia Salinas and Consuelo Zamarripa.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Maria de la Luz Lamas; sons, Silverio (Norma) Lamas Jr., Fernando (Arlette) Lamas and daughter Nellie (Joseph) Kowalski; grandchildren Stefanie Lamas, Amanda Lamas, Andrea Lamas, David Kowalski and Sarah Kowalski; and great granddaughter Micaela Lamas. He is also survived by his brothers, Marcelo Lamas and Jose E. Lamas; and sisters, Paula Almaraz and Tomasa Rodriguez.
The Lamas family wishes to thank the emergency room and ICU nursing staffs at McAllen Medical Center for their caring and professionalism.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 12, 2016 at Funeraria Del Angel in Mission from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm with a rosary at 7:00 pm. Funeral mass will be held on Saturday, August 13, 2016 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in McAllen at 9:00 am. Interment will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
