Tracy Ann Smith

Tracy Ann Beyer Smith, 63, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2026, at DHR in Edinburg, Texas, with her family by her side. Her longtime caregiver and dear friend, Jessica Delgado, was also with her, a comforting presence Tracy treasured.

Tracy was born on August 11, 1962, in Freeport, Illinois, and grew up in Shullsburg, Wisconsin. After marrying Jeffrey Smith, they made their home in Walworth, Wisconsin, where they built a life filled with hard work, love, and simple joys, especially their time spent fishing together. They shared 45 years of marriage that meant everything to both of them.

She was the daughter of Richard Beyer and Judith Buske, and sister to Debra Benson and Steve Beyer. Tracy grew up on Ju-Di Lane Farms, where she learned early the value of responsibility, pitching in, and getting things done. She lovingly carried the memory of her parents and her aunt, Dianne Beyer, Richard’s sister.

Tracy raised her daughters, Elizabeth Smith (John Dedie) and Emily Pedersen (Ben Otto), with a steady, no-nonsense kind of care. She taught them early how to take care of a home, how to cook, clean, and handle life’s everyday tasks. She loved giving advice and sharing the life skills she believed mattered. She stayed connected and checked in often, offering her perspective with the direct, grounded honesty that was simply her style.

Nursing was Tracy’s calling. She spent most of her career in the ICU, caring for the sickest patients with calm skill and compassion. She also worked in the OR and ER, always ready to help wherever she was needed. One of her most heartfelt acts was providing home health care for her mother. Tracy often said “nurses are angels in comfy shoes,” a reflection of both her humor and her pride in her profession.

After retiring in 2013, she moved to Mission, Texas, where she embraced a quieter life. She loved planting and tending her flower gardens, finding peace in every bloom. She enjoyed reading, especially books by Karen Robards and James Patterson. She spent many afternoons outside listening to her favorite music, soaking up the Texas sun, and watching the clouds she loved so much. She especially enjoyed the voice and songs of Teddy Swims, a soundtrack to her peaceful retirement days. Tracy also adored the family dog, Teddy, who brought her daily joy. Every night she gave him his special routine of 1, 2, 3 treats, a small ritual that showed her gentle heart.

She will be remembered for her strength, her determination, her passion, and her toughness. She was a devoted wife, a dedicated nurse, and a woman who lived life in her own honest, straightforward way. Her legacy lives on in the family she raised, the patients she cared for, the friends she held close, and the gardens she tended with such care.

Services will be held at a later date at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church in Shullsburg, Wisconsin.

Burial will follow at Holy Rosary Cemetery in Darlington, Wisconsin.
