We had Mom’s sister, Khaleh Jaleh and her husband Mr. Ardalan, over for lunch. It was great therapy -  seeing her, talking to her, and listening to her stories gave me a sense of calmness….We looked at old black and white photos, and fondly remembered relatives who are not with us anymore. Unfortunately Khaleh is slowly losing her memory…She is nowhere close to where Mom was the last 3 years, but I fear her traverse on that road has begun…I hope my cousins Nyma and Kaveh show more  patience  than I afforded Mom…I’m afraid to even imagine what she’ll be like in 2 months, 6 months, or a year. Khaleh, unlike Mom, still has her lifelong partner with her. Khaleh is lucky, as Mr. Ardalan is kind-hearted with a melancholic temperament, and his natural proclivity for helping makes him perfectly suited to be a caretaker. Mom would’ve been happy knowing her sister is in good hands. 

The aftershocks are nonstop and won’t waver…it’s now 16 days since Maman left us. I’m not sure why I’m writing this? Maybe I’m afraid her memory will fade, or maybe I’m searching for a curative agent? I see her everywhere in the house, even in front of the empty space where her coffee machine used to be in our kitchen. I constantly catch myself aimlessly strolling in her room - lots of pictures, but no Mom. I miss you Mom…Oh how I wish I had the chance to talk to you one more time…hold your hand one more time…make you one more breakfast…Even see you  mad at me just one more time. 

I feel so blessed to have had Mrs. Mobasseri in my life. Today’s services were so beautiful and befitting of an incredible lady she was.

Dearest Afsar Khanoom, rest in peace🙏💐I always remember her as a lively, full of energy, and funny lady. She always kept things interesting, and brought humor to all occasions, she was a great company, our Vegas trips we had with her, were memorable, my sister and I still talk about them.  Loved the drapes the made for me, as a housewarming gift, such a kind and sweet lady🖤🖤🖤🌹

Dearest Ame Afsar will be greatly missed.

She was always warm, and so kind.

I remember when I was in high school I drew a picture of my dream prom dress. Nothing in the stores matched up to my "vision." Ame Afsar took my drawing and made my dress for me! I felt like a famous movie star at prom! What a gift she gave me, bringing my dream to life. A small gesture that brought me so much joy. 

Rest in peace, Ame Afsar, you are missed. 

July 23, 1983 - This was my wedding day. My Auntie Afsar made all the dresses and hats for me, and my bridal party. All I had to do was to show her a picture in a magazine and pick out some fabric with her. Her talent was unmatchable. This was her gift to me. She had a loving heart and a generous spirit. She worked around the clock while holding down a full time job and taking care of her family. She even came down with the flu one week before the wedding, but she wouldn't let anything get in her way. I will always remember her warm hug and huge smile everytime she would greet me.

Maman left us a week ago today…The sentiment “time is the healer of all necessary evils” turns out to be complete farce.  This dark cloud hanging over me is relentless and won’t part…There are times when I notice a ray of light - but the feeling is ephemeral and quickly dissipates into sorrow and tears…I catch myself dawdling and unable to do simple tasks. Kerry is left by herself shouldering my duties…She’s my angel and I don’t know what I’d do without her. I’m hoping Sunday will be therapeutic and offer some sort of  closure and relief. And for everyone who’s reached out and offered help, I thank you on behalf of my whole family.

1973 (My best guess!) At this point  25 years had passed since Baba fell in love with Maman.

Oh the colors of the early 70’s…At the airport in Tehran…Mom styling it with Dad, Homayoun, and Mehrdad…We’re sending away one of my brothers - can’t remember which one. 

I didn’t meet Afsar until the last 5 or 6 years of her life, however she truly made an impression. For such a tiny person, she was energetic , engaging and determined. I was amazed that the she would travel to Iran at such an advanced age, sometimes with a friend or even by herself. She seemed to have a true zest for life. I know she was proud of her work history and her pension, and that she had been  able to be an independent woman in her life. Her final years were very challenging and yet she kept moving. The last time I saw her, just a few weeks ago, she was very busy, sweeping the front porch, attempting to keep all the wind blown leaves away. No one else was home at the time and yet she felt the need to keep everything spotless. She was always happy to see visitors and was an enthusiastic hostess. I will remember Afsar with warmth.

Afsar made my dress from a photo taken out of a magazine. Incredible.  I have cherished this dress every day since. Nicely kept in its special box with hopes of sharing with a granddaughter one day. I will miss you Afsar yet you will always be with us. Afsar also made my boys bedding when they were born which I still have and love ❤️🤍💙 and so many other things for us. I love you Afsar 🤍🤍❤️❤️

Each of the girls still have their dresses. Made from the Calvin Klein lace fabric. Afsar and I worked together at 4 different companies. A lifetime of memories and joy.  Afsar made my boys bedding when they were born  too which I still have ♥️🤍💙 and so many other things for us. 

Afsar made this dress from a photo in a magazine. Unbelievable talent. I love it so much and have cherished everyday since. Nicely kept in its beautiful box. I remember seeing how big the bow was and didn’t have the heart to tell her to make it smaller. It brings a smile to my face every time I see it. 🤍🤍

31 years ago Afsar made my wedding dress, all of the bridesmaid dresses for one of the  most special days of my life. I love you Afsar. Forever in my heart ♥️
