When you think of our dear Mom, Betty Jo Freeman 98 years old, please remember her as always encouraging, positive, wise, and loving to have fun. In fact when you would call her voicemail, you would hear her voice say and have some fun with me! So funny. Two things she always said was "Grasp the moment" and ask when is your next trip? Another principle was " choose wisely ". And we will try, Mom.
She has followed her loving devoted husband of 63 years into heaven on September 17, 2026 surrounded by her older daughter Teri, and her husband Bill, her oldest granddaughter, Lindsey, and two loving caregivers, Betty and Armis. She has poured her life and love into her two daughters, Teri Garrett married to Bill Garrett with daughters Ashleigh and Lindsey, and Bonnie Page married to Bruce Page and children Jacqlyn and Jason. She has left behind in-laws of Dorian Gonzalez and George Azzari, Brad Jakobitz and Jindy Page. She also made it to be a great grandmother to Levi Gonzalez, Marcus and Carter Jakobitz, Palmer and Callan Page, Isabella and Sebastian Azzari.
She began her life in Long Beach, California, attended Poly high school, then Whittier College, and became a teacher. She served as a research associate for the Long Beach Board of Education for 25 years. She met Ronald Byron Freeman on a blind date, August 10,1949 and married him two years later. They began their life in Hawaii while Dad was drafted into the Army. And that gave all of us such a love for Hawaii. They enjoyed Hawaii 27 more times !!! They also loved to travel the world in fact, made 109 trips between the ages of 55 and 75 years old around the world. She was a hard worker until the job was done and never complained. She was also ready for creative activities and adventures with supplies from her favorite retail outlet, The Dollar Tree! She also loved to give back with her time in many ways through their church, American Cancer Society, Wycliffe Bible Translators, other charities.
She and dad will always remain in our hearts because of her unselfish love, creativity, laughter, and devotion to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We are so grateful for all the years we had with her and grateful to God for receiving her into His heaven.
A celebration of life will be held October 25 at Fairhaven Memorial Services... until we see you again, mom...
