Born in Laguna Beach, CA, on December 30, 1969, he grew up in Mission Viejo and loved the community he grew up in. He went to Mission Viejo schools, graduating from Mission Viejo High School in 1988. He was very excited when his children got to go to the same elementary, junior high, and high school that he did. While Dennis lived in Santa Cruz for a few years, Mission Viejo was always his home, and was very happy to return to it in 2005. Dennis was full of passion during his life, which he showed in several creative ways.
Dennis found a love of music while as a child in school. He learned to play the standup bass as well as percussion, and truly enjoyed being in marching band, and then orchestras, both while in school, and as an adult with the South Coast Symphony Orchestra. As an adult he found passion in building remote cars which he raced, and then later build and ride bicycles. He was an active participant in the mountain and road biking community, he helped plan and run several local bike rides, which he thoroughly enjoyed. He spent many years as a volunteer with the Boy Scouts, where he discovered his passion for archery. At different times he was a Scoutmaster, Campmaster, Rangemaster, and Commissioner while he was involved with Boy Scouts. Dennis also found joy in cooking for groups of people. He spent many an afternoon and evening cooking meals as part of a catering truck as well as at the Mission Viejo Elks Lodge. He was very active with the Elks Lodge and was awarded Elk of the Year in 2018.
It was through high school orchestra that Dennis met his wife, Katherine Stiles Boelts, they were married in 1996. And while the union ended after 17 years, they had two exceptional children, who also love music and orchestra, from that marriage. Dennis worked in warehouse and shipping for many years. He also spent several years manufacturing health and beauty products. Dennis was an active member of the Calvary Church in Mission Viejo, helping in the media room for services.
Dennis is survived by his children, Robert Boelts and Kayleigh Boelts; his father Harvey Boelts; his brothers and their wives, Steven and Eileen Boelts and Michael and Laura Boelts; and his many other family members, friends, and colleagues. He is predeceased by his beloved mother, Betty Boelts.
Funeral services will be postponed due to COVID-19 restrictions. Services will be announced once gatherings are appropriate again. Donations can be made in Dennis's name to the Diabetes Research Institute.
