Born 06/01/1939 - Reposed in the Lord 10/18/2025.
Ibrahim Mikhail was born on June 1, 1939 in Sohag, Egypt to his parents - Fahmy Mikhail and Marita Melik.
He studied at Ain Shams University in Cairo, where he received his B.Sc in Physics and Mathematics in June of 1960. During his tenure in Cairo, Ibrahim became very close to Saint Pope Kyrillos the VI, which shaped not only his deep faith in Christ but his life overall. He also took Father Mikhail Ibrahim, of blessed memory, as a personal spiritual director and father of confession.
In May 1965, he received his M.Sc. degree in Physics at Assiut University, where he met Mary Ibrahim, his future wife and lifelong love. They married in Cairo on May 1st, 1967.
Ibrahim and Mary moved to Germany, where they both obtained their PhD degrees. Ibrahim earned his PhD degree in Physics in 1973 from University of Tübingen. After one year as a lecturer at the University of Tübingen, he continued his research passion at the Max Plank Institute in Stuttgart, Germany until 1980. During their time in Germany, they were blessed with their daughter, Ireny. In August of 1976, Ibrahim was ordained to the rank of a Reader at St. George Coptic Orthodox Church in Stuttgart.
In 1980 the family immigrated to the U.S., where he taught physics at California State University of Fullerton before changing his career to become a financial advisor.
Along with Dr. Mary, Dr. Ibrahim was among the founders of St. Marina Coptic Orthodox Church. Besides serving the church, there have been numerous testimonials of Ibrahim and Mary opening their hearts and home for new families, supporting them and helping them get established in the community. They have become “parents” to many in our community. Ibrahim also treasured his service to local brethren in need.
In 2006, Dr. Mary was commissioned by H.E. Metropolitan Serapion of Los Angeles and Hawaii to run Santa Verena Charity. Dr. Ibrahim supported his wife Mary selflessly and behind the scenes to be able to follow their passion and fulfillment in serving the brothers and sisters of the Lord.
After his wife’s departure, he continued to serve others but with a heavy heart, missing his beloved. He carried a very heavy cross victoriously after a devastating accident until is departure October 18, 2025.
He is survived by his daughter, Ireny Ibrahim, his son-in-law, Emad Ibrahim and his grandchildren, Anastasia and her husband Bola Malek, Kyrellos and Demiana Ibrahim.
Dr. Ibrahim left a wide impact on all of us. He is remembered for his incredible faith, love, and generosity by all whose lives he touched.
