OBITUARY

Isabel Bautista Nonaca

February 8, 1926December 1, 2016

Isabel Bautista Nonaca was her given name, but we called her Mother, Isabel, Beling, Darling, Honey, Mom, Mum, Grandma and GG. Born February 8th, 1926, Isabel, who celebrated her 90th birthday this year, passed away in her home with her family and partner of 12 years, Al Dube, in Laguna Wood, CA on December 1st, 2016 after a lengthy illness. Isabel was surrounded by her loving family and faithful care givers led by her daughter in law, Barbara Nonaca. She is survived by her children, Marie Dixon, Virginia Chavez, Sylvia Porter, Manuel Nonaca, Ed Nonaca, and Robyn Johnson. Isabel was preceded in death by her husband, Jose Nonaca, son, Jose Nonaca Jr. and daughter Betty Stanley. Isabel leaves behind 23 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren and one precious great-great grandchild, all of whom she loved dearly. Isabel was born in Zamboanga, Mindanao, Philippines, and was the youngest of 18 children born to Julita and Guillermo Bautista. Isabel was the last surviving sibling of the Bautista Family. At an early age Isabel was extremely bright and well spoken. She would light up the room with her beauty, charm and natural grace. Isabel left the Philippines at the age of 19 as a war bride to Jose Caldera Nonaca. They met while Jose was assigned to the U.S. Army Signal Corps and was part of Gen. Douglas MacArthur’s liberation of the Philippine Islands. They married on September 16, 1945 and remained married for 43 years until his death in 1988. For many years, Isabel was active in volunteer services for her family, the Catholic Church, and her community. Isabel believed “the key to social investment is volunteerism.” This was the theme she and Jose instilled in their children and grandchildren, many of whom are still active volunteers for their communities and have made careers of public service. The most important things in Isabel’s life were her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. They brought purpose and joy to her already rich and full life. As the matriarch of the family, she quietly guided us through wonderful and tragic times. She set such a beautiful example for others by the way she carried herself with such dignity and grace. Isabel’s dedication to the church and her unwavering faith were the cornerstones of her life and helped mold her in the gracious, caring, dignified and extraordinarily kind person she was. In keeping with her generous spirit and example, the family would welcome donations to the charity of your choice in our mother’s name Rosary - Friday, December 9, 2016 at 6:30 pm. Marie and Virginia, We were pleased to meet your Mother this past year. Realizing how much your family loved her came as a great inspiration.
May you be at peace knowing you did everything right for her and she knows she was loved and even more that she loved you all. Even though she may not be here physically her spirit is with you. The memories of your life with her will carry you through the years ahead. God made a beautiful room in his mansion for her. May his love carry you forward.
