Jaime Sumiguin Ty was born on October 9, 1943, in Pambujan Sur - now General MacArthur - Philippines. The eldest of five children born to Ang Chim Ty and Crisanta Sumiguin Ty, Jaime grew up alongside his siblings - Fe Ty Congson, Jessie Ty, Sunny Ty Aballe, and Jun Ty (deceased) - helping run the family’s small grocery store in General MacArthur. He attended Borongan Chinese School, Leyte Progressive High School in Tacloban, and later earned his degree in accounting from the University of the East in Manila.
Jaime met his life partner, Flora Cordero, in MacArthur, and the two were married on April 6, 1968. The following year, he immigrated to the United States, where he and Flora began their life together in Long Beach, California. With family members and relatives nearby, they helped establish the General MacArthur Eastern Samar Resident Organization (GMESRO), fostering community and celebrating their rich Filipino heritage.
A dedicated accountant, Jaime worked in his profession for about 30 years. During those years, he and Flora raised three children, Charity Hewitt, Fatima Ty, and Jaime Ty, Jr. After retiring, Jaime and Flora returned to the Philippines, where they happily reconnected with family and friends. Jaime continued his lifelong commitment to service by giving back to the community he loved, serving first as Mayor of MacArthur and later as Board Member.
In 2019, Jaime was diagnosed with cancer and returned to California for treatment. He courageously fought the disease until his peaceful passing at home.
He is survived by his devoted wife, their three children, nine grandchildren, and a soon-to-arrive great-grandson.
Jaime will be remembered for his kindness, dedication to family, deep sense of community, and generous spirit - a life well lived and dearly cherished. His legacy will continue for generations.
