James Andrew Humphreys Jr.

After high school, Jim graduated from Tulane University in New Orleans with a B.B.A. Upon graduation, Jim enlisted in the United States Navy. He served his country proudly and with honor. While on leave and vacationing in Cape Cod, MA, Jim met and fell in love with Mary Jean Kelly. They were married two months later on April 9, 1955. Jim and Mary were married for 58 years upon Mary’s death in 2013.

After discharge from the Navy, Jim and Mary resided in Ann Arbor, Michigan, while Jim attended the University of Michigan, receiving his M.B.A and his Bachelor of Laws degrees.

Jim and Mary moved to South Pasadena, CA, where Jim began his corporate law practice. In 1972, Jim and Mary moved to Corona del Mar, CA where Jim worked at Humphreys, Brown and Streza law corporation and then in private practice with James A. Humphreys, Jr. Law Corporation, specializing in wills, trusts and estates and business planning. He was of counsel to Copenbarger & Copenbarger in Santa Ana, CA.

Jim was a devout Christian and loved and served Jesus Christ faithfully. He was a long-time member of Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, CA, serving as a member of the choir and hosting and leading in-home Bible studies. He most recently began attending Kindred Community Church in Anaheim, CA. Jim also had a love of classical music and was a season ticket holder at Segerstrom Center for the Arts, where he enjoyed attending concerts.

Other interests included sailing, horseback riding and reading.

Jim is survived by his four children, son Andrew Humphreys, his wife Karen and son Andrew Humphreys; son Douglas Humphreys, his wife Kelly and children Matthew, Alison and Leah Humphreys; daughter Elizabeth Matlock, her husband Stanley and children Kasey Nagy and her husband Christopher, Kathryn and Stephanie Matlock; daughter Sarah Lowey, husband Robin and children Connor and Cole Lowey.

James was cremated and his ashes scattered at sea, as was his wife Mary.
