James Kamradt, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on May 6, 2024 at the age of 81. Jim began his remarkable journey in Menominee, Michigan, where his adventurous spirit led him to join the Navy at the age of 17. During his service, Jim traveled the world, from San Diego, CA to the Panama Canal during the Cuban Missile Crisis, and even participated in the 1962 Nuclear Tests in the Pacific.
Upon returning to Menominee, Jim pursued a career as an Offset Press Operator, contributing to the Menominee Herald Leader. Notably, he was at the press during the tragic announcement of John F. Kennedy's death, a moment etched in the newspaper's history. His career later led him to the Federal Communications Commission in Washington, DC, where he met the love of his life, Doris.
Central Wisconsin became their home for almost 45 magical years. Jim's passion for fixing things and exploring new hobbies was evident throughout his life. From ham radios to flying planes, he embraced each interest with enthusiasm and dedication. Yet, his greatest joy came from spending time with his family, whether it was traveling across the country or enjoying summers in Wisconsin with his grandchildren.
In retirement, Jim and Doris continued their adventures, exploring the country in their RV until health challenges prompted a move to Southern California. Jim's spirit remained resilient, bringing joy to those around him with his infectious humor and love.
Jim will be remembered for his kindness, his laughter, and his unwavering love for his family. Though he may be gone, his legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. Rest in peace, Jim. You will be deeply missed. Jim is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Doris, his sons Kevin and Brian (Anna), and his cherished grandchildren Laura, Marc, and Michael.
A visitation for James will be held Saturday, May 11, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Fairhaven Memorial Services, 27856 Center Drive, Mission Viejo, CA 92692.
