My heart felt condolences to the Becka family. I have fond memories of John as we shared a passion for Mountain Biking and I looked upon him as a father figure at times. 

Gail, my sincere condolences on John's passing . I always enjoyed working with John and his upbeat and happy spirit.. . We grew up as regional managers at APCOA and John always regayeled us with his stories and experiences. I remember has story of driving Ed Roth's brand new Ferrari just delivered off the boat to Cleveland and his many stories  of the Baha 500 races. John loved life and taking on the impossible risks. Many happy memories and that's what is important in life. 

Copy Becca..... I think I’ve literally said that a thousand times in my life trying to reach John in the race truck with my dad. He was always such a loyal friend to my dad and my family. He would always show up to the shop with new crash and burn stories from riding his mt bike, we also rode so we always had that in common also. He captured so many epic shots of racing stuff or even going to our bike races and taking pictures of us riding. I won my first big event and championship and he built a framed memorial of my accomplishments and simply gave it to me. He was always the cool guy that was lucky enough to ride in the Trophy Truck with my dad winning races and championships and showing us what it means to truly be a good guy. Thanks for all the texts and kind words and direction over the years. You will truly be missed bud. 

John and I both grew up in the same business being the Parking Industry. We both worked for the parking company “Airport Parking Company of America (APCOA for decades). Hence, my almost 50 year friendship with John was working with a peer. I know John moved many times out of loyalty to APCOA’s management team. I believe his last move to California fit perfectly into Johns outdoor hobbies and mountain biking. When we spoke by phone periodically  he would proudly talk about his loving family Gail, sons and daughters, grand child and then the Baha and mountain biking. When I once asked when him what is the best time to reach him by phone said before 10:00 am or after 1:00 pm because I ride my bike daily to stay in shape. Never saw John Becka overweight in all the years we have been friends.
Professionally he was an expert! He understood from top to bottom all facets of parking operations serving airports, hospitals, stadiums, parking lots and garages. He was creative in problem solving and highly respected nationally throughout the industry.
The strength I admired most about John Becka was how he loved the people he worked with by staying in touch with the people he grew up with in the parking industry. We are going to miss those periodical phone calls man!

So many memories, so little space to record them...

Two come immediately to mind:  The first was after we affixed the stressed front skid plate to the chassis; We used a T6061 hardened aluminum sign from the APCOA lot in Hartford (we had to use a car to bend it to fit), and soft aluminum pop rivets to fasten it.  Bad choices.  

We leaned the chassis on one wall of the garage, and retired to the other side for a beer. With a giant SPLANG! the pop rivets failed and filled the air with soft aluminum shrapnel, all of which missed us.

The second occurred during our first race. While John and I changed onto our racing garb, our Crew Chief hung a roll of toilet paper in the car. You might imagine our response when we climbed into the car and saw that!

John was, and is, unique and one of a kind. I shall miss him.

John and I became high school friends in 1958 and treasured our friendship since then.  Too many adventures to count,  but John was always a funny and supportive participant in tons of often goofy teen flings. Then he grew up and became a mature but adventurous husband and father, loved by all who were fortunate to enter his big circle of friends.  He will always be fondly remembered.
