Laura or “Mami,” as all her family and close friends knew her, loved to love on people. She was a dedicated mother first and foremost. Her proudest achievement in life were her three daughters – whom she treasured and embraced every moment with. Those who were fortunate to know her were charmed by her warm personality, contagious smile, and caring heart. Despite the many challenges she endured in her life, including losing her mother at an early age – she always remained positive, hopeful and never lost faith; she was kind, selfless and forgiving, and loved unconditionally.
For many years Mami worked at Larousse publishing company as a secretary, which brought her much pride and joy to be able to provide for her children as a single mother. On November 3, 1990, she came to the United States seeking a better future for her daughters. She made a huge sacrifice by leaving her beloved Mexico behind where she always said she felt free “como pez en el agua.” She hit the ground running, attended UEI to learn the English language, held various jobs to make ends meet, and worked tirelessly to ensure her children’s wellbeing.
Mami was very active traveling between California and Mexico City regularly, she enjoyed going to the movies, the theater, exploring the town, cooking, knitting unique pieces for family and friends and doing Zumba – she rarely sat still. In February 2020, after she was diagnosed with cancer, she continued to stay very active doing what she enjoyed most, including spending time with her daughters, sons-in-law and grandchildren, until her health condition made it impossible.
She will always be remembered as the strong, independent and courageous woman that she always was, but most importantly as the best, most loving mother, mother-in-law and grandmother anyone could ever dream of.
Thanks to all the family and friends who were a pillar of support, and special thanks to the doctors and nurses at Hoag Hospital, UCI, Compassionate Cancer Care and PEC who provided invaluable care to Mami over the past year.
Mami is survived by her three daughters Sara, Liz, and Laura; three sons-in-law Chava, Nando, and Joseph; six grandchildren, Leilani, Keilan, Lorelai, Isabella, Olivia and Tyler. She is also survived by six brothers and sisters. Mami will be sorely missed by all of us, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and countless other friends and family members.

================================================================================
