Our dear mother, Mary Mina Dunn passed away on Sunday, August 7, 2022 at the age of 92. She was born February 28, 1930 in Calgary, Canada and became a U.S. citizen on September 27, 1966. Mom is pre-deceased by her husband Chet and her brother Richard DeGroat. She leaves behind a brother, John (Jack) DeGroat, a sister Marguerite Garcia, three children, Kathleen Love, Rachel Dunn and Michael Dunn, two grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth Lagrew, and Kathleen Morris, as well as two great grand-children.
Mom spent her formative years in Minot, North Dakota where she attended St Leo’s Catholic School. She was involved in the Drama Club where she loved to sing, dance and play the piano. Her favorite activity was ice skating.
The family moved to Helena, Montana after the unexpected death of Mom’s dad. Mom worked at the Department of Agriculture at the Montana state capitol and later, at the Montana Office of Public Instruction.
In 1957, mom married Chet Dunn and moved to Eugene, Oregon. She managed their Masonry business for 30 plus years and later, co-owned and operated the Learning Tree Day School in Portland.
Mom loved to cook, entertain and garden. She enjoyed snow skiing and travelling and attended BSF (Bible Study Fellowship) for many years. Mom was a dog lover and adored their dachshund, Sassy.
Mom will be remembered for her fun personality, her great sense of humor, her amazing laugh, and her kind, loving and generous spirit. Mom loved life, she loved her family and she loved the Lord.
The memorial will be held at Mariners Church in the Chapel followed by a luncheon at 12pm, 5001 Newport Coast Dr, Irvine, CA 92603
