The only child of Bernice and James Welch, Patricia was born in Los Angeles on February 1, 1923. She married her high school sweetheart, Max Leigh Johnson, on June 7, 1946. Patricia and Max had two children, Bradford Leighton and Patricia Karen.
Patricia studied Art and Design at the University of Southern California. She was an accomplished Interior Designer and a charter member of the International Society of Interior Designers. In her early years, she designed for Mrs. Clark Gable and Elizabeth Taylor, with her work often being highlighted in design magazines. After putting her career on hold to raise her family in Palos Verdes Peninsula, she became the Head Designer at Bullocks Del Amo, and subsequently worked as the Head Designer at Ted Von Hemert Interiors before retiring in 1987.
Patricia loved the Lord, her family, and westerns. Whether it was working as an interior designer, teaching Sunday School, or helping to raise her granddaughters, Patricia gave generously with her time and talents. She was known to many as Grandma Pat. She had a loving heart, keen mind, quick wit, unique sense of humor, positive outlook, unfailing perserverance, and unshakeable faith.
With great joy, Patricia joins her husband, Max, and son, Brad, in Heaven. She is survived by her daughter, Karen Hernandez, her son-in-law Pat, her grandchildren Kristina Schostak (James), Kelly Lofthouse (Emlyn), and her great granddaughter, Patricia Karen Freda Lofthouse.
The burial service will be held on March 11, 2021 at 12:00pm at Inglewood Park Cemetery, 720 East Florence Avenue, Inglewood, California. A memorial service will take place at a later date.
