Shelley Jean Gard Brooks was born in Los Angeles, CA on March 1, 1939 to Jack and Barbara Gard. She had one younger brother, Gary Gard. Shelley took her duties as a big sister very seriously. Throughout her life the most important thing to her was family.
In addition to family, she deeply cared for animals. Since childhood she has had many pets including chickens, bunnies, dogs, and cats.
After graduating high school, Shelley attended El Camino Community College where she chose to sit next to a man because she liked his hairy arms. It took weeks of sitting next to each other in class, but Bob Brooks finally asked her out. They were married on August 22, 1958 and enjoyed forty six and a half years of marriage together.
On April 1, 1959 they had their only child, Shawn Brooks Plowman.
Shelley became a school teacher and taught for thirty two years, mainly in third and fourth grade. Had she not retired in 1994, she always said she would have liked to move down to second.
Bob and Shelley were lucky enough to be able to travel to many places throughout their time together. Their favorite places being Scotland, Hawaii, and Big Sur.
Shelley passed away on January 30, 2022. She is survived by her daughter Shawn, son-in-law Glenn, grandson Andie, granddaughters Brooke and Bridget, adopted granddaughter Shannon, and lastly her great grandchild James.
