January 29, 1926March 23, 2021

Stanley Thomas Williams was born January 29, 1926 to Walter P. Williams and Anna Marie Clementsen of Council Bluffs, Iowa and passed away March 23, 2021 at the age of 95.

Stan joined the US Navy in 1944 and was a crew member of the USS Pandemus in the Pacific Theater of World War II, traveling from Pensacola, Florida through the Panama Canal, to Pearl Harbor and then onward to the Philippines, China and Okinawa, Japan. After the war, he returned to his hometown and was employed as a brakeman on the Union Pacific Railroad from 1946-1950. On September 15, 1950, he married his wife Laura and soon after was hired onto the Council Bluffs Fire Department as a firefighter and member of the rescue squad.

In 1955, Stan and Laura left the harsh winters of Iowa behind, and moved to Inglewood, California where he became an Industrial Fireman with North American Aviation (later Rockwell International) where he was employed until retirement in 1991. Stan’s hobbies and interests after retirement included membership in the El Segundo Masonic Lodge where he attained the level of 32nd degree Mason and was a recipient of the HIRAM award in 1999; daily washing and polishing his truck; and spending time with his grandchildren, who have proclaimed him “the best grandpa in the world”. Stan was a friend to all living things and will be remembered for his kind heart and giving nature.

Stan is survived by his wife of 70 years, Laura; daughters Linda Shepard and Donna (Joe) Murphy; granddaughters Bella Shepard and Kristin (Kevin) Molloy and grandson Daniel Murphy; great grandchildren Georgia and Ryan Molloy all of Mission Viejo; and cherished nephew Gary (Barb) Williams of Council Bluffs, Iowa.

A commitment service with military honors will be held Monday, May 24th at Miramar National Cemetery, in San Diego, California.

Enjoyed fishing with him as a teenager and going to the naval ship reunited in later years. Enjoyed visiting with him on the phone often.
