Virginia B. Akers (nee LEE), 89, of Mission Viejo, California, passed away peacefully at home, May 20, 2018. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio, to parents, Edward and Pauline Lee (nee Myers). Virginia was a loving sweet soul who lived a full and rewarding life. She was a switchboard operator at AT&T. At about age 19, Virginia met Robert L. Akers, at the ballpark where he played baseball with her brother, Jack Lee, where she received a black eye from a foul ball & the attention of Bob. They married a couple years later, enjoying almost 66 years of marriage together before Bob's passing in 2016. Virginia was a nurturing homemaker who showered her family with so much love, delicious family meals, baked goodies, and wonderful memories. Her legacy to her family includes a proud identity in her Irish heritage, hard work and research in the family genealogy, everlasting Catholic faith, and enduring love. Other enjoyments of Virginia's included watching old movies, especially musicals, crocheting, knitting, sewing, books & magazines. Virginia is the beloved and cherished mother of Robert M. Akers, Edward T. Akers (Veronica), and Virginia L. "Ginger" Braun (John), dear sister of Edward Lee, Jack Lee & Marjorie Wolke (Paul), adored grandmother and great grandmother, aunt, great aunt of many, and a caring friend to many others. Virginia will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 30th, at 10:30 am, at St. Kilian Catholic Church, 26872 Estanciero Drive, Mission Viejo, CA 92692. Internment for both Virginia and Robert AKERS will be at All Souls Catholic Cemetery, 10366 Chardon Road, Chardon, Ohio, Friday, June 1st, at 11:00 am.
