Wayne was born on January 23, 1939, in Lafayette, Indiana, to parents Clarence and Dorothy Block. He served in the US Navy Reserves and held the rank of Sonarman First Class at the time of his honorable discharge. As an electrical engineer for 35 years at the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, Wayne earned a Master’s Degree in Power Engineering and served 16 years as chairman of a working group of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc.
Always active in various activities throughout his life, Wayne collected cut glass with his wife as members of the American Cut Glass Association, and served as president and treasurer. He was active in his 55+ community, participating in various clubs and activities and serving as Facilities Committee Chair. He played Prince Albert to his wife’s Queen Victoria, supporting her at her numerous speaking engagements.
He is survived by his daughter, Erika Gomez; son, Ryan Block; brother, Donald Block; and five grandchildren. He is predeceased by his wife Marilyn, who passed away April of last year.
A visitation, funeral mass, and graveside committal will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at Mission Hills Catholic Mortuary, 11160 Stranwood Ave., Mission Hills, CA 91345. Visitation 10:30 a.m. – 12:45 p.m.; Funeral Mass at 1:00 p.m. followed by graveside committal. Light lunch will be served before Mass.
A celebration of life for Wayne will be held Friday, November 27, 2026, from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Fairhaven Memorial Services, 27856 Center Drive, Mission Viejo, CA 92692. A reception with dinner and drinks will occur immediately afterwards and will end around 8:00 p.m.
