Born on November 20, 1946, in Chicago, Illinois, Wayne lived a life marked by laughter, loyalty, and deep, lasting friendships. He had a gift for staying connected to the people he cared about, remaining close with friends for more than 50 years and bringing joy to every conversation through his humor, stories, and genuine interest in others. He spent many years working as a commercial insurance underwriter before founding his own firm, where he excelled as an insurance archaeologist, researching complex insurance policies and providing expert witness testimony and litigation support. Among his proudest accomplishments was maintaining his sobriety for more than 40 years, a testament to his strength, perseverance, and character.
Wayne was the loving and devoted husband of Cheryl for 45 years, and together they built a life centered on love and commitment. In addition to his wife Cheryl, he is survived by Tyler, whom he and Cheryl raised as their son from a young age; his daughters, Shelley Wentz and Stacey Randazzo (Paul); several grandchildren; his brother, Robert Wentz (Joanne); and many nieces and nephews. He also cherished Cheryl’s siblings and shared a particularly close bond with Nancy, the youngest. Wayne’s warmth, steady presence, and unwavering support left a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to know him.
A lifelong sports enthusiast, Wayne’s passion began on the high school football field and continued through years of supporting youth athletics. He managed Tyler’s ice hockey teams and served as a statistician and scorekeeper for baseball and lacrosse, generously giving his time and encouragement to young athletes. A devoted fan, he held season tickets over the years to Northwestern football, DePaul basketball, and San Jose Sharks and Anaheim Ducks hockey, while never wavering in his loyalty to his beloved Chicago teams. Whether cheering from the stands or helping behind the scenes, he brought enthusiasm, dedication, and a sense of fun that others appreciated.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Loretta Wentz.
In accordance with his wishes, Wayne was cremated, and no services will be held.
