We celebrate a remarkable woman who embraced every moment of her journey, leaving an indelible mark on her family, her community, and the world around her. She was a beacon of light, warmth, and joy to everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
Barbara Ann Young (Davis), daughter of the late George and Leanna Davis, was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby R. Young; her sister, Mainmee McGowan; and her birth mother, Ida Mae Clark. She was born on May 18, 1939, in the Acres Homes community of Houston, TX.
Barbara was raised in the church, spending her adolescent years at Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church. She later joined Greater True Faith under the leadership of Rev. Ben Roy Lillie and subsequently joined Pisidia Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. R. R. Hartwell. She continued her faithful membership there under her current pastor, Rev. Albert Walker, until her health began to decline. She was an active member of the Women’s Mission, Sunday School Class #5, and served as a youth Sunday School teacher for the Young Ladies for Christian Living class. Whatever she was asked to do, she served diligently in that role.
At the center of her world was her beloved husband, Bobby. Together, they shared a beautiful, enduring love story that spanned more than 53 years. Their marriage was a testament to devotion, partnership, and mutual respect, a true cornerstone of her life. Her family was her greatest pride, and the love she poured into her home extended naturally into her community, especially through her dedication to help children. Whether volunteering, mentoring, or simply offering a listening ear, she possessed a unique gift for making every child feel seen, valued, and loved.
In addition to her rich personal life, she built a dynamic and expansive career that spanned multiple industries, showcasing her incredible versatility, intellect, and grace. Her professional journey began in the hospitality sector at the Albert Pick Motor Inn, where her natural warmth and sharp organizational skills shone. She later brought her talents to Aramco Services, navigating the complexities of a major international corporation with ease.
Her career reached extraordinary heights during her tenure at Rice University’s public policy institute. In this prestigious role, she operated at the intersection of global leadership and education. She had the rare and remarkable opportunity to regularly interact with heads of state and foreign dignitaries, handling high-stakes international environments with the utmost diplomacy, poise, and sophistication. She concluded her diverse professional path at Texas Woman’s Hospital, returning full circle to an environment dedicated to care, wellness, and community support.
