Cecelie Alicia Smith

With profound love and gratitude, we celebrate the life of Cecelie Alicia Smith, who peacefully departed this life on July 28, 2026. While our hearts are heavy with loss, we rejoice in the remarkable legacy she leaves behind—a legacy of faith, perseverance, education, creativity, and unconditional love.

Cecelie was born on April 4, 1942, in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. From an early age, she possessed a determined spirit and a compassionate heart that would define her life's journey. She believed deeply that education was the key to success and lived that belief every day. While raising two children, she earned her associate degree, then her bachelor's degree, and ultimately her master's degree, demonstrating extraordinary determination and proving that it is never too late to pursue one's dreams.

As a beloved elementary school teacher, Cecelie devoted her life to nurturing young minds and encouraging generations of students to believe in themselves. She was known for being both tough and loving—a teacher who expected excellence because she genuinely cared about the success of every child she taught. Her kindness, wisdom, and unwavering commitment to education left an enduring mark on countless lives.

Above all else, Cecelie cherished her family. She created a home filled with love, laughter, and treasured traditions that her children and grandchildren will forever hold dear. One of the family's most cherished memories was Christmas Eve, when she gathered her children together to make hand-decorated ornaments for the Christmas tree while singing Christmas carols and sipping hot chocolate. These simple moments became treasured traditions that reflected her creativity, warmth, and ability to turn ordinary days into extraordinary memories.

Her grandchildren were an extension of her children, she loved them dearly and supported as well as attended all their school and, sport events. She instilled in them her words of wisdom and encouragement.

Cecelie lived by the belief, "Never give up, if you got knocked down, you picked yourself up and try again and if life gives you lemons, make lemonade." Those words were more than a saying—they were the way she lived. She faced life's challenges with courage, resilience, and grace, inspiring everyone around her to persevere through adversity and always find hope in difficult circumstances.

She leaves to cherish her memory her loving daughter, Theresa Smith; her devoted son, Raymond Smith III; her beloved grandchildren, Jason Nance, Michael Austin, Raymond Smith IV, and Savanna Smith; and her treasured great-grandchildren, Ji'Niyah and Jarell Nance.

She is also lovingly survived by her siblings, Bryon Holder, Earl Harrigan, Edith Harrigan, Genieve Donovan and Eldred Williams, along with a host of extended family members, dear friends, former students, and colleagues whose lives were enriched by her love and guidance.

She will be reunited with her husband Raymond A Smith Jr, her parents Theresa Fredericks and Justin EW Harrigan and her other deceased siblings.

Though Cecelie is no longer with us in body, her spirit lives on in every lesson she taught, every life she encouraged, every tradition she created, and every heart she touched. Her strength, wisdom, and boundless love will continue to inspire generations to come.

We celebrate a life beautifully lived—a woman who showed us that perseverance opens doors, education changes lives, family is life's greatest treasure, and love is the greatest legacy of all.

Her viewing and memorial will be held on August 10th, 2026 from 1-3pm at Forest Park Missouri City Funeral Home in Missouri City, Texas 77545.
