Genevia R. Brown

The story of Genevia R. Brown began on June 18, 1935, in Austin County by midwife. She was born to Lawrence Douglas and Georgia Mae Reese. She entered the world as the oldest of four children.

She met Rogers Leon Brown in high school in 1955. They were wed on May 6, 1956, and five children were born to this union; Roy Wayne Brown, Alicia Jan Brown, Gweniece Brown, Juanita Carol Gaines and Cheryl Yvette Jacobs.

Genevia’s passion for sewing started early in life, joining her elementary school’s 4H club, continuing through high school as well as college. Her passion for sewing turned into a lengthy career in sewing, spending most of that time as an alteration specialist, as she was truly skilled in her craft. She also opened her own alteration shop and did much home sewing and alterations for a host of family and friends.

Her search for knowledge of the bible led her to symbolize her dedication to Jehovah by water baptism at the international convention of Jehovah’s Witnesses on June 28, 1973. Because she enjoyed telling others about Jehovah’s promises of a perfect new world, she served as a regular Pioneer from 2012-2015. Even though her circumstances did not allow her to continue in the pioneer service it did not dampen her zeal for the ministry. She remained faithful to Jehovah until her death. She was affectionately called “Momma Brown” because she had an endearing quality that drew people to her motherly demeanor.

To know her was to love her!

Genevia is preceded in death by her parents Lawrence Douglas, and Georgia Mae Reese. Her husband Rogers Leon Brown. Her brothers Arthur Louise Reese and Lawrence Douglas Reese, Jr. Also, her grandson Tiery Ivan Gaines IV.

Genevia leaves to cherish her memory her five loving children: Roy Wayne Brown, Alicia Jan Brown, Gweniece Brown, Juanita Carol (husband Tiery) Gaines, and Cheryl Yvette Jacobs. Her dearly loved sister Bonnie Jean Mayes. Also, five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, cherished in-laws, and a worldwide association of spiritual brothers and sisters.

A Committal will take place at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr, Houston, TX 77038, US, on August 11, 2026, from 11:00 am.
