Marvin Glenn Fontenot

Marvin Glenn Fontenot was born on February 6, 1954, in Lake Charles, LA. The second born of 3 siblings to Joseph Shelby and Lonia Fontenot. The family later moved to Houston, Texas where Marvin grew up and graduated from Jefferson Davis High School in 1972.

In 1973 Marvin was blessed with his son, and shortly thereafter he left to serve our nation in the Naval branch of the armed services, starting at the now closed Rudder Naval Training Center in Orlando, FL. Upon graduation and specialized training, Marvin served on the USS Independence aircraft carrier as a Catapult Officer “Shooter” serving for 3 years and was discharged from the navy in 1977.

Several months later he met and courted the love of his life, Amelia, and they married 3 years later in August of 1980. To that union, 3 daughters were born. Marvin was an avid basketball and football fan, especially the Pittsburgh Steelers, and he even did a brief stint with a minor league basketball team in the early 80’s.

Marvin was small in stature, but he possessed a larger-than-life persona. You knew when he was in a room. It seemed that there was rarely a place you could go that someone didn’t know him. He gave his life to Christ at an early age and always shared the Lord with almost anyone he encountered. He and his family became members of The Church Without Walls in the early 2000’s, where they remained, and he served until his death. He worked as a commissioned security guard for the past 25 years, with the last 12 years at Glennwood Cemetery.

He dearly loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, always emphasizing the importance of education. He considered himself a rich man because of his family.

Marvin was preceded in death by his loving parents, Joseph Shelby & Lonia Fontenot.

He is survived by his son, Anthony Bailey; three daughters: Christina Elizabeth Fontenot (Darron), Melinda Glynn Black (Curtis, Jr.), Courtney Yvonne Bricher (Timothy Jr.); Goddaughter Veronica Harris; three honorary daughters: Lamaya Brooks and Shyniquia Vories, and Tamria Phillips. He is also survived by his God mother, Rose Broussard, and three siblings: Josephine Plummer, Joseph Shelby, Jr. (Sheila and nieces Nicole and Kimberly), and Robert (Cora); as well as thirteen grandchildren; Brianna, Charvin, Jr. (Victoria), Channon, Madison, Jaeden, Raigan, Curtis III, Marcus, Shelby, Cheyenne, Holleigh, Timothy III, and Joseph. He has two great grandchildren; Vincenzo and Sire. Lastly, he has three honorary grandchildren; Shainia, Alana, and Leiani. He also leaves a great host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends, all of whom will miss him dearly.

A Memorial Service will be held at The Church Without Walls - Eldridge, 7500 Eldridge Pkwy, Houston, TX 77083, US, on July 18, 2026 at 11:00 am.
