

Deacon Abraham Quioto Lopez – a 90 year-old native of Honduras and longtime resident of Mobile passed away Wednesday, May 28, 2014. Mr. Lopez, a veteran of World War II, served in the Merchant Marines for 20 years. A former deacon at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, Mr. Lopez was 4th Degree member of the Knights of Peter Claver, as well as the Holy Name Society and the St. Vincent DePaul Society. A man of many talents, he also served as a laborer, carpenter, bricklayer, Boy Scout leader, photographer, writer, translator, and was also a musician.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mattie Lopez; daughter, Zella Jones; parents, Doroteo Moises Quioto and Justa Lopez; and five siblings, Moises Quioto, Angelica Quioto, Heriberta Quioto, Victor Modesto Quioto, and Dominga G. Quioto. Mr. Lopez is survived by his children, Cesarina Arzu, Anthony Quioto Lopez, Abraham Quioto Lopez, Jr., Seletha Curtis, and Edna Smith; sisters, Raquel Quioto and Xiomara Quioto; brother, Ruben Quioto; uncle, Guilermo Lopez; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from the chapel of Little Sisters of the Poor on Monday, June 2, 2014, at 10 a.m. Visitation will be held at Little Sisters of the Poor on Sunday, June 1, from 4-7 p.m. with the Rosary to be recited at 4:30 p.m. Interment will be in Catholic Cemetery.
