
Alberta McConnell Houston – born August 27, 1927, passed away March 7, 2012. Alberta was a charter member of First Baptist Church Tillman’s Corner, was co-owner of McConnell and Houston Grocery, and will be buried the day before her seventieth wedding anniversary. She was the first Worthy Matron of Dave Langham Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. Mr. and Mrs. Houston were charter football scholarship donors at Auburn University, and rarely missed a home game with their motor home and their grandchildren. Active in her community, she was instrumental in naming W. C. Griggs School. Alberta was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas E. Houston, Jr.; her parents, Jesse H. McConnell and Lottie Roberts McConnell; and her son-in-law, Randall B. Todd. Alberta is survived by her daughter, Rebecca Todd Eubanks (Tommy); her sisters, Charlesine McFerrin (John C.) and Jeri Smallwood (Robert); her grandchildren, Scott Todd (Robin) and Amy Fesperman (Mark); and her great-grandchildren, Mackinley Elizabeth and Mia Randall Todd, Ansley McConnell and Gracie Todd Fesperman. Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon on Saturday, March 10, 2012 from the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home with Reverend Charles Couey. The family will receive friends from 10:30 A.M. until 12 Noon on Saturday at the funeral home. Pallbearers are Mac Fussell, Wren Harper, Jonathon Law, Joseph Law, Frank McFadden, Franklin McFadden, Ted Montgomery, and Robert Smallwood. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens.
