Alfred Gore was born on July 14, 1951, in Mobile, Alabama. He was the only child of the late Rev. Willie W. Gore and the late Lawsie M. Gore. After graduating from Williamson High School in 1969, he joined the U.S. Air Force in May 1971.
Alfred served his country as a weapons mechanic, and achieved the rank of Technical Sergeant. During his service he was stationed in Germany, Texas, and Louisiana, and he served in Iraq during the Gulf War crisis. Proud of his 20 years of service, he retired from the Air Force in August 1991. He later worked as a barber until his retirement.
When Alfred was in the fifth grade, he met a young lady named Barbara Kyser. They began dating in June 1970 and were married in April 1971. They remained married for 55 years and had three daughters and six grandchildren together.
After battling cancer and having a spiritual encounter during his recovery, Alfred professed Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior. He was later ordained a deacon under the spiritual guidance of his father, Rev. Willie W. Gore, then pastor of Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church. He remained a beloved deacon of the church for the next 30 years. He was also a member of the male chorus, food pantry and assistant Bible study teacher.
In his free time, Alfred enjoyed fishing, riding motorcycles, and cutting grass on his riding lawn mower. He had an uncanny ability to fix or build anything. Ever since he was a teenager, it was not uncommon to find him building motorcycles and boats from scratch or working under the hood of a car. He was especially skilled in all things mechanical.
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Barbara Gore; three daughters, Tallaisha (Duane) Maull, Jenean (DeMarco) Sheridan, and Adrienne (Lamar) Gray; six grandchildren, Kendall Maull, Laila Gray, Delaney Sheridan, Nadia Gray, DeMarco (Deuce) Sheridan II, and Aidan Gray; devoted cousin Sharon Denise Powe; one aunt, Minnie Thomas; and a host of cousins and extended family.
