Alton Lewis Harvey

Alton Lewis Harvey, age 87, passed from this life at 3:38 p.m. on September 10, 2022. He was predeceased by Tommye, his wife of 63 years; his parents, Curtis Lafayette and Mattie Harvey; two brothers, Leland and Harold; and two sisters, Louise and Leola. He is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Pamela and Leavon Prater and Paula and Bobby Moseley; five grandchildren, Ryan Roth, Brandon Clay, Jeremy Lynn, Shannon Clay, and Christina Lynn; seven great-grandchildren, Chloe Calvert, Milo Clay, Jackson Lynn, Cyrus Clay, Elliott Roth, Jillian Lynn, and Cullen Clay; one brother, Rev. Charles R. Harvey; and beloved friend, Joyce James.

Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family at Radney Funeral Home from 2:00-4:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 18. The memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 24 at Carson Baptist Church, Carson, MS with interment to follow at Carson Cemetery.

Alton was a veteran of the Korean War having served four years on active duty and four years in the inactive reserve. Following his period of active duty, he earned a Bachelor’s Degree at William Carey University and a Master’s Degree at the University of South Alabama. He retired from Mobile County Public Schools in 1987 while serving as the Assistant Superintendent for Instructional Programs. He also served as an adjunct instructor at the University of South Alabama where he taught economics and supervised student teachers for more than fifteen years. He was an active member of Spring Hill Baptist Church in Mobile, AL.

Following his retirement, he spent much of his time at his beloved Crosswinds Farm where he grew and harvested some of the best timber in the area. Additionally, he wrote a comprehensive history of his family. His research and comments are contained in three books that provides more than 2100 pages of information.
