August 26, 1946 – July 2, 2026
With profound love and gratitude for a life of selfless service, we celebrate the life of Anita Joseph Hill, who peacefully departed this life on July 2, 2026, at the age of 79 at Providence Hospital in the afternoon. A lifelong resident of Mobile, Alabama, Anita dedicated her life to caring for others, leaving an enduring legacy of compassion, excellence, and unwavering faith in her calling.
Born on August 26, 1946, Anita was the beloved daughter of the late George Mitchell Joseph and Mary Williams Joseph. She was raised with strong values of love, hard work, and service; qualities that would define her throughout her life.
In 1973, Anita graduated from Providence School of Nursing and began her distinguished nursing career at Providence Hospital. Determined to become the very best nurse she could be, she sought experience in nearly every area of nursing. Through her journey, she discovered that pediatric nursing was not her calling, but she found her greatest fulfillment serving patients in the Emergency Room, Surgery, and Burn Unit.
Always striving to expand her knowledge and skills, Anita became certified in administering chemotherapy and radiation treatments, providing exceptional care and hope to countless individuals battling cancer. Her patients were never just patients; they became family, and she treated each one with dignity, kindness, and genuine compassion.
After her oldest child graduated from high school, Anita embraced travel nursing, serving hospitals throughout neighboring states. In 1994, she transitioned into full-time travel nursing, where she found a special place serving Native American communities on an Indian Reservation in Albuquerque, New Mexico. There, as throughout her career, she became known for her dedication, professionalism, and heartfelt commitment to those in need.
Although she retired from full-time nursing in 2002, Anita’s desire to care for others never faded. She continued serving as a private-duty nurse, helping individuals receive compassionate medical care in the comfort of their own homes until her final retirement in 2014.
For more than four decades, nursing was far more than Anita’s profession; it was her calling. She believed in treating every patient with respect and love and never missed an opportunity to teach, mentor, and encourage others entering the nursing profession. Her legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched, the nurses she inspired, and the families forever grateful for her compassionate care.
Anita was preceded in death by her parents, George Mitchell Joseph and Mary Williams Joseph; her beloved grandson, Jalen Hill; and her great-nephew, Rodney Hudson II.
She leaves to cherish her precious memory her devoted children, George (Tanisa) Hill and Janelle(Tyreke) Staten; her cherished grandchildren, Tatianna Hill, Imani Peterson, Shakeerah Mitchell, Yahmina Mitchell, and Sahdir Staten; her loving sister, Bernice McGlasker (Michael); her nieces, Christina McGlasker, Mykell (Rodney) Hudson, and Constance McGlasker; her great-nieces and great-nephews, Crysta
McGlasker, Cara McGlasker, Myla Hudson, Raquel Hudson, Rodney Stafford, and Elijah Thomas; along with a host of cousins, extended family members, treasured friends, former coworkers, and the many patients whose lives were forever changed by her compassionate care.
The family extends heartfelt appreciation to the physicians, nurses, and staff of Knollwood Healthcare and Providence Hospital for the kindness, compassion, and excellent care shown to Anita during her time of need. Your dedication brought comfort to her, and our family is deeply grateful.
A memorial service celebrating Anita’s life will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Pathway to Destiny Ministries, 7408 Frank Sledge Lane (Twin Beech Road), Fairhope, Alabama 36532.
