She passed away quietly at her home on Friday, September 4, 2026.
She was a native of Prichard, AL where she raised her family and lived for many years.
She was a proud graduate of Cedar Grove Academy. She continued her education at Bishop State and Alabama State University where she received her bachelor’s degree in education. She was a proud educator in the Mobile County Public School System where she taught at Nelson Adams, Booker T Washington Middle School and Citronelle Middle School where she retired after 25 years of service in the school system.

She was known for picking up kids as well as one of the eldest members of Canaan, Mrs. Mary Steele early on Sunday mornings for Sunday School. Anna and Mrs. Steele had a very close bond for many years as she graciously transported Mrs. Steele to all of the church functions. She faithfully attended and served at Canaan until she became unable to attend physically due to health reasons.
She was affectionately known as “Bernice” and “Anna Bernice”. She was loved by many and never met a stranger. She dearly loved her family, friends, former co-workers, and church family. She was well known for her wit, intelligence, kind loving spirit and most of all her encouraging words and impeccable memory as she brightened the day of those she loved by remembering their birthday every year.
