January 13, 1924 – September 9, 2020
Anne, a native of Birmingham and longtime resident of Mobile, passed away peacefully on September 9, 2020. She and her husband, John Edwin, who passed away September 8th, 2019 were a joy to their only child, Barbara Shepherd Malkove (Bernard), and her family.
Anne grew up in the West End neighborhood of Birmingham. She was an early career woman starting before World War II in Birmingham in the executive offices of Standard Brands Company (now Kraft Companies). She retired from AT&T (BellSouth) in Birmingham.
She and John Ed enjoyed many friends all over the country and traveled to be with them and to take their grandchildren on fun vacations. The Shepherds moved to Mobile to be with family and lived a busy productive life here.
Anne loved her family and is survived by her daughter Barbara Malkove, her husband Bernard Malkove, her grandchildren John Millen Griser Schmohl, Jr. (Beth Cheney), Courtney Schmohl Barrack (Wayne) of Richmond Virginia, David Shepherd Schmohl (Sarah Hackney) of Mobile. Greatgrandchildren surviving her are Mary Lynne Hamilton (Reid) of Atlanta, John Schmohl III of Richmond, Aimee Victoria Barrack, Edwin Wayne Barrack, Jr. of Richmond, David Shepherd Schmohl, Jr, and Clara Anne Schmohl of Mobile. She also will be remembered by John Millen Griser Schmohl (Ruth), sisters-in-law Mildred Shepherd and Ruth Bozeman, nieces, nephews, and many friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, John; parents, John Thompson Tabor and Annie Moody Kirby; brothers Thomas Francis Tabor and Charles Rosamond Tabor; and her sister Bettie Ruth Tabor Forstman. Many special thanks to Dr. Thomas C McGee and his staff and Sitters Services of Mobile who cared for both of them with love and attention.
John and Anne will be buried together at Elmwood Cemetery, Birmingham AL. in a private ceremony Sunday morning September 13th. In lieu of flowers, her favorite charity was St Jude’s Hospital for Children (StJude.org), Shepherd Center Foundation (Shepherd.org), or your favorite charity.
