OBITUARY

Anne Connelly Walsh

July 21, 1944October 16, 2020

Anne Connelly Walsh, a 76-year-old resident of Mobile passed away from an extended illness on Friday, October 16, 2020, surrounded by her family.

She was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. She moved to Denver for high school, and later graduated from St. Joseph’s Nursing School. She moved to California to work at a US Navy hospital as a civilian nurse where she met her husband of 50 years, David. They lived in several cities out West, in London, England, and settled in Mobile. After obtaining her nursing degree, she wanted to further her education and graduated from Spring Hill College with a B.S. in political science.

Anne was one of a kind. She was very active in the community, volunteering in numerous service and civic groups. She was devoted to the League of Women Voters, her book club, Ikebana, and the Herb Society. She loved L’arche and was active on the board. She served on countless committees for St. Ignatius, McGill-Toolen Catholic High School, and the Little Sisters of the Poor. She loved politics, cooking, entertaining, and gardening. She worked as a nurse in the family medical practice until she retired two years ago. She touched the lives of many patients with her kindness and compassion. If there was a need, she was the first to volunteer. She gave of her time with a cheery attitude and a great sense of humor. She made every person feel as though they were the most important person in the world. Her motto was “Whatever you do for the least of my brothers, you do for me.”

She is preceded in death by her parents, brother, and sisters. She is survived by her husband, David, her daughters, Aimee Walsh Holberg (Michael), Devon Walsh Hecker (Timothy), and Mollie Walsh (Sheila Gallow), and by her grandchildren, Sam and Janie Hecker and Julianne Holberg. She had countless friends she cared for deeply.

Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Ignatius Catholic Church on Wednesday, October 21, 2020, at 11 AM. The family will receive friends outside at the home of Timothy and Devon Hecker following the mass.

Due to COVID restrictions, we do not anticipate visitation prior to the Mass (subject to change), and the Graveside Service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to L’Arche of Mobile, 151 S. Ann St. Mobile, AL 36607.

Condolences may be made at www.radneyfuneralhome-mobile.com.

The Carbo family of New Orleans would like to send our sympathy to David and the Walsh Family. Anne and David was so generous and kind to take in their home my sister Harriet after Katrina. My sister was treated as a member of their family. When Harriet returned home Anne and David stayed in contact and remained closed friends. Anne was truly and angel sent to our family by Our Lord. Thanks again to you Anne, David and family. May you Anne, rest in peace with God and all the Angels and Saints, and Bless the Walsh family. Gary and the Carbo family.

Just sending thoughts for you, Devon, for the loss of your mother. I am just a TV viewer/fan of you and felt the need to express condolences to you. One lesson I learned when my mother passed was to save some of those serving bowls I hated but later went out to estate sales to buy them because they reminded me of her.

Dearest Walsh Family,

I have so many fond memories of Mrs. Walsh - her smile, her wit, her kindness. It is no surprise that she and Dr. Walsh raised three amazing daughters who I am blessed to have as friends. May God bless the Walsh family during this difficult time and help them to hold onto all of the beautiful memories. Mrs. Walsh lives on in her daughters and grandchildren.
