On 5 December 2013, Anthony (Tony) Ernest Whiston, long-time resident of Mobile, Alabama entered into the joy of Heaven with his Savior. Born 21 June 1937 in Harrogate, England, Tony came to the United States on the Queen Elizabeth II; this adventure was one that he spoke of many times and was telling of the passion for adventure which was a key part of this much-beloved man and father of six children. Tony graduated in 1955 from Columbia High School in Maplewood, NJ and in heeding the patriotic call to serve, enlisted in the United States Navy. Tony proved to be an exceptional sailor, earning the American Spirit of Honor Medal; he was accepted into Navy flight training where he learned to fly the SNJ and graduated to fly the S2F. Following his honorable service in the Navy, Tony continued to demonstrate his strong work ethic in supporting his family and raising his children. He was owner and operator of Able Appraisal Incorporated. Tony treasured the freedoms that he helped preserve as a veteran, and he continued to serve the nation through the Civil Air Patrol, rising to the rank of Major and accumulating over 1000 flight hours in more than 12 aircraft types, earning his commercial, instrument and multi-engine qualifications. His love of life led him to travel abroad, visiting many domestic destinations and 10 foreign countries. He was preceded in death by his wife Sue MacDonald, his parents Hazel and Ernest Whiston and sister Erica Whiston Travers. Those who continue to celebrate his life include his six children and their spouses: Anthony Richard Whiston (Leslie); Diane Whiston Benoit (Marcel); Ginny Whiston Hall (Mike); Carl Eric Whiston; William Ernest Whiston; and Edward Slater Whiston (Vanessa). His grandchildren, Christina Whiston Stirm (Graham), Lucas Anthony Benoit, Blake Whiston, Rob and Tori Hall, and Slater and Gracie Whiston, as well as nieces and nephews in the U.S. and in England, and his many special friends. Tony leaves behind a great heritage, having exemplified godly manhood by living his life anchored to the pillars of dignity, character and honor. Above all, he loved and honored his heavenly Father and passionately shared his abiding faith and trust in Christ with everyone he met. A memorial service to honor Tony and the life he lived, will be held at Christ Anglican Church 3275 Halls Mill Road on Wednesday December 11, 2013 at 2:00pm. Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Tony's dearly loved Christ Anglican Church. Condolences may be placed online at www.radneyfuneralhome-mobile.com.
