Arlis Jean Engebretson Lange, 96, of Mobile, Alabama, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on October 3, 2026. Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on January 16, 1930, she was the daughter of Martin and Jeanette Engebretson.
Arlis trusted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior when she was 13 years old, and that faith became the foundation of her life. Her favorite Bible verse was Galatians 2:20:
“I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.”
On March 3, 1951, Arlis married Roy August Lange in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Together, they served at Forest Park Bible Church for 57 years. Arlis's life was marked by 74 years of faithful service to the Lord and to others. She helped with many of the secretarial duties at Forest Park Bible Church, taught preschool Sunday school and Beginner Church, and served at Southern Grace Youth Camp. She helped to establish the Child Evangelism Fellowship chapter in Mobile and was always looking for opportunities to tell others about the Lord. She was especially known throughout Mobile for passing out “Smile” Gospel tracks.
Arlis graduated from Southwest State Technical College in nursing and worked as an LPN at Mobile Infirmary for a short time.
Arlis was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Roy August Lange; her parents, Martin and Jeanette Engebretson; her sister, Dona Darling and her husband, Ken Darling; her brother, David Engebretson; her sister, Karen Mayham; and her brother-in-law, Jack Nitz; her son, Kenneth Lange; and great-grandchild, Angelic Howell.
She is survived by her children, Cynthia (Frank) Huckabee, Steve (Ruby) Lange, and William (Donna) Lange; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; her sister, Marian Nitz; and a large and loving extended family.
